This is the question that most people ask because everyone thinks that only fats should be avoided.

What Are Carbs?
Carbs is a short term for carbohydrates and those who have studied even a little bit of science would know what Carbohydrates are. They are the sugars present in everyday food that the body utilizes to produce energy. Actually, carbohydrates are the instant form of energy, did you know that? They are utilized for energy before fats and proteins. Thus when we are talking about carbs being in foods, you can automatically think about sugars that will give us many calories, if it makes the job all that easy!

What Is A Low Carb Diet?
Now that you know what carbs are, it will be fairly simple to know what a low carb diet is. A low carb diet is that diet you follow which has a good amount of protein, some fat but very little carbs. Low carb diets will consist of food that do not have that many carbs in them and overall your intake of this specific part of the food pyramid becomes very less. This will help in the long run because a low carb diet is known to be the most successful form of dieting. Think about it yourself; you are taking the instant energy out of your food. This means that for energy purposes, you either have to rely on the little things you eat otherwise or from the storage of your body. And once you are dipping into the fat storage of your body, you will automatically begin to lose weight!

Which Foods Should One Avoid In Low Carb Diets?
Basically, all foods which are high in carbs! You should know that almost all foods contain some amount of every nutrient. Even if you take a small, green leafy vegetable, it will have some amount of protein, some amount of fat and even some amount of carbohydrates in it. But the difference is “HOW MUCH?” You should eat the foods which have very little carbs in them and that is one way you will be able to lose weight. Here are some of the foods that you should definitely avoid if you want to follow a low carb diet!

  • Rice and pasta and even stuff made from flour are things that should be a big NO on your food list. These food items have a lot of carbs in them and usually even if a person is not following a low carb diet, these items are ones that they avoid anyway. They are that dangerous to your diet. They can ruin it completely because it takes a long while to actually burn the calories gained from rice and pasta!
  • Potatoes may be vegetables but do not in any circumstances eat them as a healthy vegetable! Potatoes are not good for you if you are trying to lose weight, especially if fried with oil. They have a lot of carbs and starch too.
  • This might come as a surprise to you but stay off fruit juices. Fruits have carbs in them, good carbs though, you should have some of it but do not overdo it. It’s like this. If you take one orange and eat the whole of it, there is no damage done. You are getting healthy nutrients, vitamin C and also some energy and fiber. But if you drink orange juice, a single glass made from 5 oranges, things will get bad. You will gain a lot of calories this way, making it harder to burn. And the fiber content is reduced too in juice form.
  • Everyday bread also has carbs in it. It is best to either get fiber bread or brawn bread as they have a reduced number of calories and are good for you anyway.

Hopefully, you understand better the concept of carbs and now you know which items to avoid and which items you can easily eat.
