This should be an interesting article. We always think about dieting and how much weight we will lose during it. We keep thinking which diet is better and which one will ensure that we do not lose our health and skin color. More often than not it happens that the body generally weakens and also loses its luscious color after weeks of dieting. Hence, a proper diet which does not leave you nutritionally deficit is extremely important. In all of this, we often ignore our behavior during a diet. We do not think about it and do not pay attention to how a diet affects our behavior. Here’s how it does.

The Negative Effects
Here is a list of negative effects that occur on the behavior while we are on a diet.

  • We Become Sulkier.
    Since the hunger pangs are eating alive at us, we often become sulky and snap at those around us. This is one of the first effects that show at the start of a diet. It can continue till the middle but by the end we are so used to the routine, we stop snapping at people then. But that start can truly be worse. Even those who are not dieting suffer because of the dieter because it completely changes his mood. It is tough to survive on a scheduled food list and then to eat only out of that for the course of the diet plan. It is also tough to exercise while at it since most of the people who diet are not really enthusiastic about exercise and that also makes them sulk.
  • We Get Annoyed More Quickly.
    Our patience level goes to a minimum while we are on a diet. This is definitely true in ninety five percent of all cases. Again, the hunger pangs have a major role to play in this factor. The truth is that as soon as a diet begins, we begin to think more about food. This is definitely true. At first, eating yummy foods was taken for granted because one never had to skip out or hold back on anything. Now, one has to follow a strict diet. We can all imagine the effect it would have. My sister was dieting a few months back and she would get annoyed even if I so much as sang a song too loudly. Talk about being grouchy.
  • We Are More Depressed.
    Like the five stages of grief, these stages are present in the diet as well. Depression is something that one has to fight off during the course of their diet. It happens often at the start of the diet. A dieter begins to get severely depressed when he diets, wondering what happened that led him to gain so much weight in the first place. Then he gets depressed when he doesn’t lose it as quickly as he thought it would. It takes effort to lose weight, we often forget that.
  • We Become Anti-Social.
    This happens a lot. During a diet, we often tend to try to stay at home because we know that if we go out and see delicious food we might not be able to help it. Thus then comes the anti-social part. And considering all the things mentioned above, people do not really want to be around us anyway due to such behavior. Sad.

The Positive Effects
Don’t feel too sad about dieting, there are positive effects on the behavior too. Here they are:

  • We Become More Active.
    This happens gradually. At first, it is true that we become lazy and lethargic and think that all the energy has drifted from the body. But as begin to lose weight, we become lighter and more active and it shows clearly in our behavior.
  • We Become Health Conscious.
    Since we know how hard it is to lose weight now, we become more aware of our surroundings and more concerned with the food we eat, even after our diet. It comes with knowing what hard effort is and how it was when we were trying to lose weight.
  • We Become More Confident.
    Thin people are always more sure, more confident of themselves. This behavior is a certainly added plus point in our personality. We start to gain our lost self-esteem back and depression was a thing of the past for us.

Conclusion
If you might have noticed the pattern of the behavior of diet, you’ll notice that the positive effects came right at the end of dieting while the negative ones were heavy on us in the start. This shows that even though dieting might seem hard and worthless at the beginning, it surely is worth it at the end. We become thin, lean and strong.
