When a person is on a diet, they are really hungry. Appetite suppression does not come easily, especially for those who have already increased their stomach sizes and have a great love for food. They wish to stuff themselves with things that do not have calories and will not make them fat and something they can have without feeling guilty that they ruined their diet. Of course, everything that fits this description comes by the name of diet soda. The trend of diet sodas have increased alarmingly in the past decade and many dieters who have problems dealing with their cravings often have diet sodas to get over it. In fact, most of the diets also have this as one of the things that you can have while on a diet. And who blames them? Imagine sitting all hungry and since you are dieting, you have to wait for mealtimes and are unwilling to snack up on something just for the sake of it. And then of course, you turn to diet soda. But the question here is, is diet soda really good?

Why avoid the main question at hand here, let us get right down to it! The answer to this question is no, diet soda is not really good. In fact, recent research has shown us that it is horrible for health and for dieting as well! The public, the masses, who have been having diet soda as if it was the answer to their dieting prayers should stop having diet soda immediately. It will do more harm than good to your body. You will now be wondering what is so horrible about diet soda that one can’t have it? Well, we all agree that soda is harmful for health and absolutely terrible for dieting. It has too much sugar in it, more so than our daily requirement! Imagine fulfilling our daily requirement of sugar multifolds by just drinking a small bottle of soda. But since diet soda has no such sugar in it, why is it bad for us? Read on further to find out.

Why Is Diet Soda Not Good?
Now the question here is, why is diet soda not good for us? What is not good in it which can cause harm to our diet and health in general? Well, here is why diet soda is not good:

  • Diet soda may not exactly have sugar in it but it is sweet. Why? It has artificial sweeteners in it. Now, artificial sweeteners can mess up the body’s system because they may not give you the calories that you have avoided but they will cause your body to crave more sugar or artificial sweeteners as it is. And since no one can have that much of diet soda, you will turn to food to satisfy your body’s cravings. This can only lead your appetite to increase. It does sound ironic, doesn’t it? You are drinking diet soda in the hopes that your hunger cravings will go away to appease your appetite when in fact, it is only secretly increasing it.
  • Having a lot of diet soda is one of the leading causes of metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome leads to other diseases which are quite dangerous to be precise. It can lead to insulin resistance which can lead to diabetes. It can lead to obesity which leads to a number of other diseases, cardiovascular related on the top of that list! You need to be extra careful if you are at a high risk of diabetes already.
  • There is research being done on it and there is marked evidence proving that diet soda can cause depression in a number of years, if one has it rather regularly. Since depression is already a major problem in most countries of the world, especially developed countries, keeping a healthy check on your intake of diet soda will not harm you but only benefit.
  • Diet soda also increase abdominal circumference! Imagine that! For those of you who are trying to lose weight and to tone the body, it is better to find some fruits and vegetables as alternatives to deal with the hunger pang rather than stocking up on diet soda!

If you are in the habit of having soda, having diet soda might be better if you don’t want to add the calories but the fact remains that diet soda is not all that good for you. As you can clearly see, it causes a number of problems and major ones in the long run. It is better to be safe than sorry. Don’t drink diet soda, even if you are on a diet. Turn to better alternatives which will not harm your health or your mind in any way.
