Healthy Weight Loss For Kids

Obesity is such an alarming subject for most because of the troubles it brings to society. No one is happy when obese because let’s face it, everyone wants to be fit and thin and look good. However, when we think about obesity and weight gain and the entire dieting regime, mostly adults come to mind. Rarely do we associate this with kids but nowadays, with the diet that is and the rate of obesity increasing in kids; it is not subjected only to older people anymore. And it should not be either because kids need to think about the fat they have put on as well or although dieting is not exactly a healthy option for any kid, there are healthy ways for weight loss in kids too, just like adults.

Should Kids Really Try To Lose Weight?
Most parents are of the opinion that kids should not even think of weight loss, no matter how much weight they put on but the parents need to be told that it is okay for kids to lose weight but the only thing is that it should be in a healthy manner. Parents often try to state that kids are of a growing age and turning them towards dieting and exercise will probably ruin their childhood or stunt their growth. This is not the case. There is no ruining of childhood if one is trying to get healthy and fitter and kids need to exercise more nowadays anyway with the rise of techno games and electronic gadgets that entice them to stay indoors. And if the parents take a little care about their diet by not feeding them less but feeding them the right things, they will eventually lose weight.

Baby Fat
If a kid has baby fat, it shows clearly that it is baby fat but there are kids who cross borders of weight gain and are morbidly obese for their age. For them, it is not just baby fat anymore but fat that needs to be gotten rid of properly. Making someone try to lose weight below the age of six or seven is not good but above that till the teen years; it is okay to make a kid try to lose weight in a healthy manner that will not affect in an adverse way. Then it isn’t about baby fat anymore. Then things get serious.

What Is Healthy Weight Loss For Kids?
The question arises now, what is healthy weight loss for kids? How can they lose weight in a healthy manner? Well, the answer is really simple enough:

  • The metabolism of kids is at a faster pace than adults and since they are at a growing age, all they need to do is stop eating junk food and sweets which are bad for them anyway and turn towards healthier foods. It is also the responsibility of the parent or the guardian to ensure that their kid is eating healthy fruits and vegetables and protein rather than bags of chips because a kid is not going to diet by himself or herself at such an age. They would probably need a lot of help from the adults in the household to even grasp the concept that they need to lose weight.
  • Exercise also becomes an essentiality in times like these. Make your kid join a fitness class or any other type of club where physical exertion takes place. Take him or her to the park where they can play around and burn calories. Have healthy outdoor activities planned so that your kid can enjoy as well as have healthy weight loss.
  • If there are other kids whose parents are trying to make them lose weight, get your kid to interact with them too. It will help them immensely and might even boost them up to go according to your plan rather than cry out loud for normal oily foods that they are usually fond of.
  • Keep a severe check on sweet intake. Kids love sweet things and although it is not that good for them, they still want to have it. Turn them towards natural sweets, like fruits for example.

Don’t fret it! You can lose weight really quickly and you don’t have to follow any strict diets. Just play outdoors and eat healthy as your parents tell you to and within a few weeks you’ll weigh the same as any other kid around the block!

Having kids lose weight is normal and one shouldn’t think of it as unhealthy. In fact, an unhealthy thing to do would be to let the kid be as he is and this habitual eating or obesity can even grow with him into his adulthood where it will be much harder for him to try and lose weight.
