HCG Diet – DOs and DON’Ts of HCG Diet Program .

Introduction

In 1950, Dr. Simeonshad developed a weight loss protocol comprising of HCG injections and 500 calorie diet. This idea of low calorie diet was very well received by the people because they could lose their weight without feeling hungry and above all by remaining energetic and healthy. This is because of the fact that HCG injections don’t affect lean muscle while low calorie diet also plays an active role in maintaining health.

All about HCG Diet Program

HCG Diet program begins with daily injections of 0.15 cc (consult your practitioner for dosage). Nowadays HCG drops are safer alternative to HCG injections. Recommended dosage of HCG drops is 10 drops, 3 times daily. HCG drops are applied under the tongue and swallowed after 15 seconds.
HCG diet program may continue for up to six weeks depending on how much weight you want to lose. It usually lasts up to 23 or 40 days.

What to eat during first three days?

Interestingly, during the first three days of HCG diet you are required to eat food of high calories. You are supposed to devour on whatever you get your hands on so as to assure that you have enough fat stored for successful completion of your diet program.
For the effectiveness of your diet program, you can eat highly concentrated food during these three days. Recommended foods are milk chocolates, eggs, pastries, bread with jam, cheesecake and fried meats etc.

Guidelines for the rest of the days

You have to start and strictly observe 500 calories diet. Dr. Simeons put guidelines for breakfast, lunch and dinner. These guidelines are briefly discussed below:
Breakfast: You can have tea or coffee in breakfast but without sugar. However, you may use saccharin and as far as milk is concerned, only one tablespoon is allowed during 24 hours.
Lunch: You are required to eat one item from each of the following groups:

• 100 gram of meat (beef, chicken breast, fresh white fish, crab and lobster). Weigh the raw meat and remember to take out all the fat from the meat prior to cooking. Also note that salmon, tuna, dried or pickled fish are not allowed.
• 1-2 cups of vegetables which are to be chosen from spinach, green salad, tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, chard, green beans, celery, onions, chicory, beet greens, red radishes, broccoli and cauliflower.
• You have to eat fruit such as large apple, orange, one half grapefruit or a handful of strawberries.
Dinner: You are required to follow the same guidelines as already mentioned for the lunch.

What about seasoning of food for better taste?

Seasoning of the meals is allowed but with strict restrictions. These restrictions are listed as under:
• Juice of one lemon is allowed daily.
• Use of salt, pepper, vinegar, garlic, mustard powder, sweet basil, parsley, thyme and majoram is allowed for seasoning.
• Oil and butter are strictly prohibited.
• Use of curry powder, cinnamon and fresh herbs is allowed.

 

What about use of supplements?

You can use supplements of Calcium, digestive enzymes, a good multivitamin, citracel or any other fiber for stool regularity.

What to eat after completion of program?

Note that you have to continue 500 calories diet without HCG injections/drops for three more days after completion of program. This must be followed by three week transition period in which you may eat anything you like except for carbohydrates or sugar.

Special recommendations

Some very useful and important special recommendations are given below:

• If you choose beef then make sure that it does not contain marbling.
• Use same amount of salt everyday as increase in salt may result in weight gaining.
• Eat one large apple because two smaller apples will collectively contain more calories than the single large apple.
• Try to drink 2 liters of water daily to avoid retaining water.
• Don’t use cosmetics which contain oil and fats.
• Eat red peppers or cinnamon to increase your metabolism.
• Avoid fast food and eating in restaurants during HCG diet program.
• Don’t have carbonated drinks. Besides, tea and coffee are allowed in any quantity but without sugar.
• Don’t take HCG for more than 40 days as it may be dangerous for your health.
• If you want to lose more weight and start HCG diet program again, then wait for at least six weeks before starting your HCG diet program again.
