A lot of the times, when most men and women start dieting, they are unable to deal with hunger pangs. This is why most diets fail and the hunger pangs can actually get one depressed. The person starts to think about why they let themselves become so obese and then they berate their own selves over the fact that they have to diet now. It is not easy. Obese people are obese because of their love for food. Imagine that you love something and then suddenly have to let it go. It cannot be easy and it often leads one into depression.

Diet foods are not wanted
Of course there is no diet in the world which just lets you eat anything you want and whenever you want. Most diets consist of foods such as fruits and vegetables and anything that you desires such as ice-cream or French fries are a no go. You have to take control over your stomach and that often means feeding it something which isn’t to your liking. That can also get a person depressed and most people are tired of eating diet foods. It can make them sad and irritable, this is also why everyone expects dieters to be annoyed and exasperated in the initial weeks. After that, they get used to it or they can often stay depressed by it.

Watching others
When a person diets, they often expect results within a week or so because of the enormous amount of effort they are putting on their self-control and will to not eat anything and stick to their diets. However, results do not come that quickly. That can also get a person depressed when he or she looks at other slimmer and smarter people. They can also get depressed if they eat with people who do not have to control their diets. It can get hard eating boiled or grilled chicken while the one in front of you is taking down a giant sized burger filled with mayo and ketchup. Thus, depression can hit.

How Can One Control It?
There are many methods over how you can get rid of your depression while dieting. The first obvious one is to remember your depression in obesity. If you have decided to diet, there must be a reason why you did so. You were not happy with your weight or the way you looked. You wanted to slim and smarten yourself up. Depression in obesity is much worse. You have low self-esteem; low self-confidence and you mostly shy away from society and gatherings. The depression in dieting is much different and you can control it. Here’s how:

  • You must exercise. It makes you feel better and makes your body feel better too. Those dieters who regularly exercise are less prone to feeling depressed than those who do not exercise at all.
  • Do not think about where you are, always think about where you are getting. You’ll be slim and smart in a few weeks; it’s worth the effort rather than feeling sad about it.
  • Keep your expectations to a minimum. Do not think you’ll lose weight in just ten days. You need to keep yourself ready and know that it will take time, especially if the amount is a lot to lose.

It’s okay if you feel down and sad once in a while about your weight but don’t get too depressed over it. Rather, make yourself feel better by telling yourself that you are doing something about it. Dieting is not easy and if you are doing it, you should be feeling proud rather than depressed! And even if you are down in the dumps for some reason, go for a jog.
